Vaginal discharge can be part of the normal cleaning process of the body. But sometimes, it is caused by infection and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and even cancer.

Dr Sim will also discuss the different types of vaginal infections that can cause abnormal vaginal discharge.

They can be classified into 2 groups: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI/STD) and non-Sexually Transmitted Infections (non-STI/STD).

Infections like Trichomoniasis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea are considered Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), while infections such as Candidiasis and Bacterial Vaginosis are not considered sexually transmitted.

If you have noticed a change in your vaginal discharge or worried that it isn’t normal, see our partner doctors for further advice. If needed, swab tests can be performed to confirm the presence of any infections. Last but certainly not least, the majority of these infections are easily treatable.
